The Shark Club

Welcome to the weekly pool competitions page… if your looking here you obviously enjoy the game of pool… well done. The shark club is surely the best place in nelson to play the game. You wouldn’t believe the shots that the club has seen in its history.. and you wont believe the shots that are still to come!

Now.. let us tell you about our competitions… the foundation of the competitive pool is firmly anchored on a WEDNESDAY night. That’s when we get to see who has their eye in and the rub of the felt.. it’s quite simple really.  The competition starts at 9.30pm and runs along a single player knockout formula. Get in touch some time during the evening and believe me, a little bit of practice beforehand can go along way... The board goes out about 8.30pm and youre encouraged to put your name down and get involved. Competitive pool takes the game to a whole new level!.. its $3 to play in the competition and the prize for the winner is a cool $50 bar tab.  PLUS there is a $100 cash spot prize available to all entrants. The final is played in a best out of three series and the runner up walks away with a $50 value bar tab.. there is also a shark club professional players board where the names of the winners are put so that others can see who has taken away the cash prize before.

Its basic New Zealand pub pool with an umpire running the format that can explain the rules and keep things moving along.. great to be involved in and test your game, and great to watch and see the level of pool that is being achieved.. Every Wednesday night at 9.30pm.. meet greet and beat the local pool identities..

Then there is the THURSDAY competitions… currently the Thursday night comp is a game of  KILLER POOL. We have thirteen spots available for each game, its $2 to enter and the winner is rewarded with a $50 bar tab for their good work. Killer pool is a good social game that requires the player to make a pot with every shot, losing one of the three lives that are given  with every missed shot or foul shot. We use a deck of cards to establish which players turn it is and the cards are discarded with every miss.. this game is great fun and not so intense so suits all levels of players with luck and skill taking equal importance. We generally run a couple of these games every Thursday starting around 9.30 at night.. Again the players board is out about 9 with someone running the event that can explain how it all goes.. great fun to get your crew together and have a go!
